Perhaps philosophy is too strong a word, but the reality is we all have an approach - there are many ways to accomplish any one thing, and how one chooses to go about it is a matter of personal taste, ability, environment, lessons learned. The same can be said for photography, and in many ways, more so than for many other endeavours in life. So much is subjective, so much is a matter of either personal taste or a specific desired outcome. But some things are, to borrow a phrase "self-evident". You have to have a sound foundation of knowledge - however you came by it, be it formal education or the school of hard knocks... or both. You have to know the rules before you can break them, and you have to have a vision. Without a vision all those tools are basically useless - they are much like memorizing a song in a foreign language you don't understand. In view of all that, where am I coming from?
Even though TwoSixPix is a thoroughly modern photographic service, employing the latest the digital world has to offer, that is not where my journey started. I learned to make photographs on film, in a darkroom – I still do, I am very passionate about the magic of photography – but why should you care? Well, there is no “easy button” in the darkroom, there is no “undo”. It has to be done correctly, with an understanding for what makes a great image: composition and light. Everything else is really just decoration. When I set out on assignment for you, armed with the best gear and software of the digital age – at the core of each image is that “no short-cuts”, “get it right in the camera” approach. My foundation is strong - it goes back to the very roots of photography. My vision has been brought to focus by decades practicing and refining both my knowledge and how I see the world around me. I truly believe this will be an asset to you, my client.
